History
Trillions of years prior to the events of the serial, Pecker Cipher, who was trapped in his ain decaying dimension at that time, waited for the moment when the gate between his dimension and Gravity Falls' would open to call information technology his own. In the meantime, he appears to humanity throughout history in a non-physical class by projecting himself through the Mindscape.[6]
Background
Season i
This upshot is first hinted in "Boyz Crazy," when Stan Pines sings his "Meat for the Apocalypse" jingle. During said song he is even seen stocking a plentiful amount of The Dark-brown Meat, presumably in prevention of the cataclysmic event.
In "Dreamscaperers," before leaving Stan'south mind Pecker warns Dipper, Mabel, and Soos of the impeding apocalypse by even maxim, "A darkness approaches. A solar day will come in the hereafter when everything you lot care nigh will modify." In "Gideon Rises," the upshot is again loosely foreshadowed when Gideon explains the true nature of the journals to his father, that existence the fact that the Author hid them many years ago in fear of anyone bringing the apocalyptic event to reality.
Dipper'south Guide to the Unexplained
Throughout all the shorts in Dipper'south Guide to the Unexplained the apocalypse is foreshadowed in hidden page sections in a series of encrypted messages written in cherry-red by The Author.
In "Candy Monster," once decoded, the section of the hidden bulletin reads, "THE DAR." In "Stan's Tattoo," once decoded, the department of the hidden bulletin reads, "I WAS And so." In "Mailbox," the cataclysmic event is somewhat foreseen when the omniscient being sending letters through the mailbox.[7] predicts that the world could meet its end in the year 3012. Once decoded, the section of the hidden bulletin reads, "Bullheaded HE L." In "Lefty," in one case decoded, the section of the hidden message reads, "NEAR." In "Tooth," in one case decoded, the section of the hidden message reads, "KNESS IS." In "The Hide-Behind," in one case decoded, the section of the subconscious message reads, "IED TO ME." One time the series of shorts is over it is shown that when all the hidden pages are decoded and properly combined, The Author's hidden message reads, "I WAS And so BLIND. HE LIED TO ME. THE DARKNESS IS NEAR." This foreboding bulletin also reveals that The Writer knew most the upcoming apocalypse and was deceived in playing a prominent function in its development. This suspicion is revealed to be true far subsequently in the series.
Season ii
In "Into the Bunker," the apocalyptic event is foreshadowed when Dipper puts is new findings on how to use his black calorie-free in action. He discovers in the messages written in invisible ink, that The Author built a bunker in grooming for the inevitable disaster. In fact, The Author stocked the bunker with over 60 years of supplies and weaponry.[8]
In "Sock Opera," Weirdmageddon is foreshadowed once more when Bill takes advantage of a slumber deprived Dipper to re-appear to him once once more. In their 1 sided deal, Bill forces Dipper out of his torso while Nib possesses Dipper's remaining husk, in order to try and destroy the laptop he plant and Journal 3. Truthfully, the reason why Nib possesses Dipper'due south body in the first place is that he wanted the portal between his and Gravity Falls' world to open, but Dipper just having the journal could accept jeopardized his programme. In fact Dipper almost did.[9] Near the end of the episode, Nib warns the twins once more of the inevitable apocalypse to come up by straight stating, "This isn't the last you'll hear of me! Big things are coming! Y'all can't terminate me!"
Later on in "Society of the Blind Center," while viewing Old Man McGucket's memory tube, he explains that while working for The Writer, they created a portal that The Author himself believed could benefit flesh. Even so, afterward witnessing the true horrors of the portal's capabilities, he lies awake at nighttime haunted past the fact of what he helped create. As a countermeasure, the young McGucket tries to "forget" what he has seen with the use of the retentiveness erasing gun he created, but this plan backfires as the overuse of the device renders him insane to the indicate that he himself gives a foreboding message of the apocalypse. McGucket foreshadows the event as he yells, "YROO XRKSVI! GIRZMTOV" and forms a triangle over his eye with his fingers. At first what appears unintelligible is really a cryptogram that when decoded using the Atbash cipher reads, "BILL CIPHER! TRIANGLE." During the finish credits the effect is foreshadowed again when Stan's marker, notepad, and java mug are sucked into the portal to a location unknown.
Near the end of "Northwest Mansion Mystery," Onetime Man McGucket pulls Dipper abroad from the festivities of the Northwest Fest party to tell him that he repaired the laptop and tries to warn him of the "imminent threat countdown timer" initiated on the laptop. In that same scene a tapestry of Bill Cipher floating above a landscape engulfed in flames with humans bowing down to him is seen, thus solidifying the fact that in that location is no turning back from the upcoming apocalypse.
Weirdmageddon is foreshadowed multiple times throughout "Not What He Seems." Information technology is shown that the extreme usage of the portal could cause the end of the earth, though Stan ignores The Author'due south warnings written in Journal 1 and activates the portal at full chapters. Later to his disadvantage, he is arrested for this as agents Powers and Trigger had the whole family under surveillance since the events of "Scary-oke" and accuse him of harboring a doomsday device. The imminent apocalypse is foreseen again when Sometime Human McGucket presumably flees the town with his raccoon wife to avoid beingness in that location when the portal activates every bit he thinks it volition be the end of the world. Meanwhile, the twins interruption into the government guarded Mystery Shack to observe answers to the whole situation as they find out that Stan is not who he appears to be, they run into Soos, who Stan had previously told to guard the vending machine that is actually the archway to the clandestine laboratory, with his life. Afterward Stan escapes captivity he promptly returns to the shack only he is too late equally the twins manage to get by Soos (while convincing him at the aforementioned time) and read The Writer's true warnings apropos the finish of the world, which is hiding in invisible ink in the portal page of all three journals combined. Dipper, Mabel, and Soos endeavor to shut down the portal merely Stan intervenes desperately pleading for the twins to trust that he isn't trying to destroy the world. As the portal's countdown timer reaches zip, gravity fluctuates destroying everything around it, merely equally the carnage settles, The Author walks out of the portal and reveals his confront.
In "A Tale of 2 Stans," equally Stanford Pines (a.yard.a. The Author) explains his backstory, Weirdmageddon is foreshadowed as Ford reveals that while trying to find out what could be the cause of the loftier occurrences of supernatural anomalies in Gravity Falls he hires Fiddleford McGucket to aid him in constructing the portal. After many nights are spent perfecting the machine, Ford and McGucket do a examination run; unfortunately McGucket'south leg gets caught in a rope and he is sent head but into the portal. Before Ford manages to save Fiddleford, he glimpses at the kind of dimension that Beak would similar to spend fourth dimension in,[10] which mentally scars him for life. Just earlier leaving the interdimensional portal project, he angrily warns Ford that he will bring the end of the earth if he doesn't shut down the portal; Ford doesn't listen to his warning and later regrets this as he too starts to lose his sanity. Equally a terminal resort, Ford decides to seek his twin bother Stanley (Stan Pines) for assist. After their reunion, Ford explains the situation and the terrible power of the portal. He then requests that Stanley takes Periodical 1, go, and hide it far away never to be seen again. Non knowing the true nature of Ford'southward request, Stan furiously tries to burn the journal and fights with his brother, which ultimately sends Ford into the portal to dimensions unknown for xxx years. In "Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons," Weirdmageddon is briefly foreseen when Ford explains to Dipper that, when Stan reactivated the portal, the instability of its use created an interdimensional rift, which is extremely unsafe. Ford contains the rift but its days are numbered. In "The Stanchurian Candidate," the event is foreshadowed in the end credits when Gideon completes his cartoon of the Zodiac in his prison jail cell and declares that he is set up to make a deal with Bill.
In "The Last Mabelcorn," during the cold open, while talking with Ford in the Mindscape, Bill directly foreshadows the issue when he says that he has been making deals and preparing for the big day. This is even more axiomatic when he tells Ford that he tin can't keep the rift prophylactic forever. Later, when Dipper uses Project Mentem on Ford, flashbacks of the events are seen of when Fiddleford McGucket tries to warn him not to keep the portal functional. In one case Ford secures the interdimensional rift from Dipper, he reveals to him that it was Beak'southward thought to create the portal in the first place. Unaware of Bill'south true motives, Ford blindly makes a bargain with him to let him enter his mind equally he pleases, until the day Fiddleford saw the horrors on the other side of the portal. Furious at this, Ford meets with Bill in the Mindscape again to confront him for some explanations. Bill and then happily reveals that he had tricked Stanford into creating a portal to his ain destruction as information technology will bring other demons into his dimension. As a last resort, Ford shut down the portal and hid his journals so that no one could e'er complete Bill's work and crusade Weirdmageddon.
In "Dipper and Mabel vs. the Future," Ford explains to Dipper that the interdimensional rift's casing is bang-up and if it were to shatter it would crusade reality to become completely unraveled, causing the catastrophic issue known as Weirdmageddon. Bill Cipher would stop at goose egg to make this effect become a reality. This is later confirmed as Beak possesses Blendin Blandin and tricks Mabel into giving him the rift. He then smashes the containment orb, causing the long predicted event to brainstorm, leaving Gravity Falls at his mercy. In "Weirdmageddon Office ane," the final story arc begins. Nib has finally obtained his long awaited physical course and now has total control over Gravity Falls and all of reality itself. Three days into the consequence, the town is already unrecognizable equally it is overrun with monsters, Eye-Bats, and many other unworldly things. Bill also summons the Fearamid as his castle and calls upon his friends: eight Ball, Amorphous Shape, Hectorgon, Keyhole, Kryptos, Paci-Fire, Pyronica, Teeth, and Zanthar to accept a party in laurels of his hostile takeover of Gravity Falls. In "Weirdmageddon 2: Escape From Reality," Bill Aught and his friends are shown partying. However, when they realize that they cannot leave Gravity Falls, Bill'southward efforts to spread his anarchy beyond the planet, galaxy and universe take been halted. In "Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back The Falls," Bill tries to get Ford to tell him how to reverse the boundary on the boondocks after finding out that he knows how to remove the bulwark. He first tries tempting the man into telling him the equation by offering him power and glory. Ford refuses, seeing through his lie. Bill and then tries to enter the man's listen to take the answer for himself, only Ford reminds him the dominion of the mindscape - Bill is free to haunt a person's dreams, but the just way into a conscious heed is for the person to milk shake Bill's paw and hold to let him in. Unfettered, Bill resolves to physically torture Ford past blasting him with lasers until he agrees. Though Ford is in pain, he still refuses to give in.
Later on, Pecker captures Dipper and Mabel, and threatens to impale one of them if Ford doesn't tell him how to accept Weirdmageddon global. Ford reluctantly agrees, shakes the demon's hand, and lets Bill into his listen. However, Bill is shocked to realize that he, chief of trickery and manipulation, has been deceived. He had not entered Ford's heed at all, but Stan's. While the demon was distracted chasing Dipper and Mabel, the brothers devised a plan to destroy Bill once and for all. They tricked Bill into going within Stan's mind instead of Ford's past changing their apparel and impersonating each other and then Ford would shoot Stan with the Memory erasing gun, which would completely wipe away Stan'south mind and erase Bill from existence. Beak gets trapped within Stan'south mind and becomes terrified. He begs for his life and promises Stan anything he'd ever want, but nothing can sway Stanley Pines, non even losing his own identity in order to save his family. Once Stanford shoots his brother's mind away, Pecker's class grossly distorts until Stanley punches him and Nib vanishes from being while his physical body is turned to stone permanently. All his monsters, chaos, and damage done to the residents are sent back to where they came from.
